"Where are we in this process? Where do we go from here?"
Though they might not sound like questions related to determining where a school is in the technology integration and use process, these are the questions I have been asking myself over and over again.
Throughout this semester, I have learned how to ask effective, research-based questions to get to answers that are relevant and useful in developing a technology plan. I have learned how to create a vision for my school and work with other teachers and leaders to gain input in this process. I gained the necessary tools to analyze Dawson County High School's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats in regards to technology implementation. All of this strategies and processes have helped to define where Dawson County High School is in regarding its technology integration and use.
And all of this led to an action plan that was designed to answer question 2: where do we go from here? That is the big question -- accompanied by," How do we implement techniques and strategies to make this technology use more student-centered and an effective process for all?" This is where I feel that I have become a part of the process. I have transformed into a leader amongst my colleagues and have utilized the tools that I have learned to become an effective technology coach. I have truly immersed myself in the process.
It is through this process that I can achieve my ultimate foal; helping students learn through the tool that is right at their fingertips all of the time: technology. Technology is a part of our daily lives and it is not going away. We need to effectively incorporate this tool to relate to students and transform our curriculum to promote a student-centered learning environment. Through my Feedly account, I have been able to have access to a vast array of knowledge regarding technology use in the foreign language classroom - without having to perform a single search - it is all at my fingertips!
The process of analyzing all of this data, the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, has truly been meaningful and impactful in my journey to becoming a technology coach. I feel that this class has given me the "knowledge and know how" that I need to lead my colleagues into making education more meaningful and student-centered through the use of technology. It has served as my first leadership experience in regards to technology design and implementation and I cannot wait to continue this process!
