When I first began this class, I knew that there was so much to learn! I have always felt like I have been a leader amongst my colleagues, but I was nervous about how to transition what I know into being able to be a technology leader/facilitator and coach. I feel that technology is one of my strong points, and people have always asked me for help and advice in this area. This class has taught me how to "coach" others by using the appropriate knowledge, skills, and disposition of a technology facilitator.
I have learned in detail the enhanced learning levels and how to apply these levels in my own classes. I have also learned how to help others implement enhanced learning levels in their classes as well. I now know what LoTi levels are and even how to use them to address different levels of technology in relation to student learning. At the beginning of the semester, if someone asked me if I would ever know what all of those levels are or even how to access them, I honestly would say know. At first I felt I was on information overload. However, as the semester progressed and I was actually asked to access LoTI levels, explain why and rate my classmates' lessons, I can know confidently say that I know all about LoTI levels. And, I feel comfortable helping others rate their lessons and also coach them on how to increase the LoTi levels of an activity. I think that this portion of the class was crucial in facilitating what 21st century learners want and need: more technology to facilitate and individualize the learning process. I can now "facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences making appropriate use of differentiation, including adjusting content, process, product, and learning environment based upon an analysis of learner characteristics, including readiness levels, interests, and personal goals" (PSC 2.5, ISTE-C 2.E).
Gone are the days of lecturing for an entire class period while expecting students to take pages of notes. Today's learners want to be active learners; they want to explore and have meaningful learning experiences. Through the tools I have learned in this class, I can now, "model and facilitate the use of digital tools and resources to engage students in authentic learning experiences" (PSC 2.3 / ISTE-C 2.C). By being able to identify Levels of Technology Integration (LoTI) and then be able to offer suggestions, advice and feedback on how to integrate more (meaningful) technology for today's learners greatly supports student acquisition of content standards because it provides a more seamless integration of the 21st century student's needs.
By working collaboratively with my classmates. I had the opportunity to grow as not only a student and teacher, but also as a technology facilitator. My peers offered exceptional feedback that allowed me to grow as a teacher. I had the opportunity to help them as well and put my new knowledge of technology-based practices and skills in action. This was one of the most rewarding experiences and has prepared me the most to be a technology facilitator or “coach”.
Thanks to al of my classmates and to Professor Matthews for their positive feedback, constructive criticism and support!
